Astrology Newsletter September 2016
As summer winds down and we enter into the harvest season of September there are a few astrological events coming up that I'd like to share with you.
Solar Eclipse: manifesting through the fog
On September 1st there will be a solar eclipse taking place in the sign of Virgo. This sign rules health, work, service, discernment and attention to detail. Practical by nature,Virgo energy gets things done in a simple unassuming way.
A Solar eclipse is a new moon event which signals the start of a new cycle of activity. An eclipse intensifies the impact of the energies present at the time of its passage and its vibration continues for several months into the future. They always happen near two points on the ecliptic called the Moon's nodes. These are very sensitive points that act as a kind of rudder directing energies on a soulful level. They point to the most relevant direction of growth and experience available to us at this time.
Notable in this eclipse is the Saturn square Neptune aspect that is now closely aligned with the Moon's nodes. This aspect has been in the back round impacting us for close to two years and will finally complete its passage by early November. By aligning with the nodes its influence comes into high focus once again, offering us an opportunity to finally 'get it right'.
If you've had a lack of clarity as to where you are currently headed in your life or have inspired ideas that you'd like to put into action but they have been difficult to successfully anchor than you have been feeling the effects of this configuration.
Neptune is transiting through and also rules the sign of Pisces. This planet operates through our dreams and inspired intentions. Non physical by nature it provides the vehicle by which we tap into themes of beauty, grace and unconditional love. Although visionary, it is also characteristically vague and elusive when trying to transfer its messages into a real world context.
Saturn on the other hand is the master of manifestation. Its method of operation is through restraint, limitation and plain old hard work. Saturn and Neptune energies have little in common and this challenging square aspect makes it difficult to bring out the best in each other. Typically distrust and doubt can fog can mire the way.
When used effectively however, Saturn's presence does guarantee concrete and lasting results. This is best done in a step by step process, trusting your intuition and diligently eliminating all that no longer serves you. By keeping your faith and persevering you can indeed manifest through this fog!
Mercury Retrograde: repression versus expression
Mercury, the planet that rules information, communication and daily travel will begin a retrograde phase from August 30 - Sep 21. Retrograde energy signals a time when delays, break downs and misinformation are common occurrences. This particular one will be going through the sign of Virgo. It is likely that many of these occurrences will be related to the practical matters of work, service and health. Effective communication during this time will depend on accuracy, attention to detail and the refinement of your ideas.
Also of note, Mercury is currently conjunct Jupiter and both are in opposition to Chiron (the wounded healer). Both Mercury and Jupiter work in the world of ideas and information. Chiron is concerned with the deeply meaningful but often painful parts of ourselves that have difficulty being expressed.
The opposition aspect acts through contradictions and opposing forces. Very often it plays out in the field of relationships. Chiron is in the sign of Pisces which is intuitive and feeling based by nature. But often expresses in a vague or even an escapist manner. The challenge this combination is presenting at this time is whether to repress or express our true feelings with others as well as out into the world in general. Best used this pairing encourages deep introspection and can be a call to free some aspect of the self that longs to be heard.
Both Mercury and Jupiter are in the sign of Virgo and once again, discernment and attention to detail are the means to navigate successfully. Positively used this transit can open the doors to deeper and more meaningful ways to express who you -- really -- are.
Jupiter enters Libra
On September 9th Jupiter leaves the practical service oriented sign of Virgo and enters the more socially oriented air sign of Libra where it will be until October 2017. While transiting through this sign Jupiter will be coloured by the the character and nature of it.
Libra is about beauty, the arts, harmony, justice and most importantly one to one relationships. Expansion and opportunities for growth and abundance in these areas will become more available during this time.
As always, lots more going on in the coming weeks.
Until next time
Astrology Newsletter June 2016
I'd like to share some observations on two of the most prominent astro- energies in activation over the coming weeks; the c Jupiter, Neptune, Saturn configuration (T- square) and Mars going direct in motion.
The challenging configuration between Jupiter, Saturn and Neptune is once again coming into close alignment this month. This planetary combination has been playing a subtle yet powerful role in our lives since last February. It will be activated over the coming weeks with Sun, Moon, Venus and then Mercury each taking their turn connecting and intensifying its influence. This is the last time this configuration will be in play.
Why is it significant? It is assisting in the great paradigm shift we are collectively going through. It has much to do with re-organizing our lives based on a more refined and updated understanding of what we value and how we wish to express our selves with greater authenticity. If you've found yourself being eager to move ahead on one level but not having a clear sense of exactly how to on another level than you can identify where this is in operation in your life.
When Jupiter and Neptune combine with each other visions expand and idealism runs high. This is a time of testing spiritual integrity. Jupiter sees the big picture and is expansive by nature, Neptune, shares the inspirational quest but clouds, confuses and dissipates energy due to its stressful orientation. Then add Saturn's limiting process into the mix and impediments have been guaranteed. Saturn does provide the ability to harness your dreams and bring them into a functioning reality. However it is by nature slow in its function. Discernment is needed at this time in order to sort through and clearly identify what your truest intentions are and the methods by which you wish to act on them.
During this stage of anchoring your personal paradigm shift, tension and restlessness have likely been evident at times alternating with confusion, dis-orientation or lack of trust at other times.
An excellent illustration of this configuration at play on the collective front is the struggle the Medically Assisted Death bill has been having in parliament. We've come to a place in our society where it is recognized there is an need to address this sensitive issue and develop formal structures to accommodate it. However it has become apparent that there is much to sort through. This is new territory with many implications and it can not, and should not, be rushed through to a quick conclusion. Over the coming weeks there likely will some plan to move forward now that more aspects of the issue have come to light.
June 29 Mars goes direct
Interestingly, the Mars retrograde experience has been dove tailing with the Jupiter, Neptune, Saturn configuration these last couple of months.
After being in retrograde motion for a 74 day period. Mars the planet that governs vitality, energy, action and desire finally begins its forward motion at the end of this month. The slow down, re-evaluation and reworking of plans and activities that is typically required during a retrograde motion should be complete and the ability to go forward on firmer ground will then be possible.
Mars has been in the signs of Scorpio and Sagittarius during this time. Working with the themes of: releasing of what no longer serves (scorpio) and directing activities to reflect one's true place in the world. (sagittarius)
Although Mars will be moving forward again, its best to maintain a slow pace during the following weeks because it must retrace the degrees it has retrograded through from April to June first. This implies there will be some refining to be done. During July and August the lessons learned will slowly unfold. By the lunar eclipse on August 22 all will be completely up and running. Making September on wards the perfect time to fully engage the new energies that you have re-crafted through the earlier months of this year.
July and August generally have a much gentler vibe coming with some social changes in the air. More about that in coming weeks.....until then,
A word on pacing and perspective
Interpretation of the planetary energies impacting us at any given time reflects the unfolding Cosmic plan. These energies do not always co-inside with the desires we have in our human experience however. My intent as an astrologer is to identify some of the strongest influences available in order to assist you with pace and perspective in your current affairs.
Of course you have free will and it is always a part of the equation. But even free will has limiting factors. On a personal level it is directed by the areas of focus that exist in the blue print of your birth chart and then shaped by the timing and context of the Cosmic flow of energies present at any given time.

Retrograde season is upon us! In the coming weeks five of eight planets in the sky will be in retrograde motion. The two likely to have the most identifiable impact will be Mars and Mercury.
Retrograde motion happens when a planet reverses its direction and moves (seems to) backwards through the zodiac. This directional change has energetic implications. The energies associated with the planet in question slows down, becomes introverted and cause frustrations and delays in the activities associated with their rulership. During retrograde motion time is best spent in reflection, review and re-organization where needed.
Mars retrograde: April 17- June 29
Mars is known as the action planet. It represents the energetic force that applies drive and initiative to all activities. In other words its the planet that gets things done!
When its motion is retrograde your current activities will likely begin to lose momentum and slow down. Frustrations may surface and physical vitality may decrease (especially if you are prone to health disorders). Any course of action that has been per-maturely started or is off course in any way will show itself during this time and if it does this signals a time to slow down and re-evaluate. That is where retrograde energy shines. The ability to see deeper, re-align and fine tune can be done quite effectively now. Retrograde Mars is a call for more time spent reflecting on past actions, tending to unfinished business and where needed re-channeling your efforts.
Since both Saturn and Mars are in the sign of Sagittarius and also share stressful aspects to Jupiter and Neptune, delays may very well be rooted in impractical or overly idealistic intentions. However, in the coming weeks as Taurus energy becomes more prevalent, practical methods and solutions will gain more influence in your life.
Mercury retrograde: April 28 – May 22
Now add to the mix, Mercury, the planet that rules communication and the (conscious) thinking mind. It begins its retrograde phase April 28. You can anticipate crossed wires and delays in all forms of communication during this time.
Its in the earth sign of Taurus which governs financial matters and material concerns. Mercury retrograding in this sign is likely to cause delays in communications particularly associated with these matters in your life. Taurus energy is fixed and determined by nature. While Mercury passes through it sign concentration is increased and the value of various items or ideas can be clearly identified.
It is important to note that although the sign placement is always significant you will feel the effects most personally in the areas of your life ruled by the house being transited in your personal birth chart. The house placement designates where activities are playing out and the sign placement is the character by which they respond to the issues in play.
New Moon in Taurus May 6
The Sun, Moon and retrograde Mercury are conjunct in this new Moon chart. The focus during this lunar month will tend to be on more practical matters. Resourcefulness, productivity and practical applications will be emphasized. This trio of planets is supported by a stabilizing and protective configuration with Jupiter and Pluto. Called a grand trine, this formation is helping to ease and anchor any changes or adjustments you may need to take.
Newsletter for March 15-April 15
In last month’s newsletter I spoke about the powerful configuration in the sky that has been in operation recently which centers around the planets Jupiter (wisdom) and Chiron (the wounded healer). This configuration continues to have strong influence over the weeks to come. The sign emphasis is in Pisces (compassion and faith) and Virgo (health and discernment).
Circumstances that trigger difficult feelings of all kinds or chronic health and addictive behaviors are tending to surface for many of us now and it’s an excellent time to delve deeper into what the root causes may be. There is tremendous opportunity to understand, release and heal long standing limiting beliefs you may hold about yourself (especially) and/or others. What new approaches to old issues might you take? And how can you facilitate a deeper level of understanding towards them?
Saturn has challenging aspects to this Jupiter/Chiron opposition. Making it an excellent time to restructure and empower yourself as never before. The wonderful gifts implicit in the sign of Pisces are deeper heart connectedness, uniting with others in compassionate understanding and a renewal of trust in the process of life. This is an important next step to be taken on the pathway to conscious living.
On March 25th Saturn turns retrograde
It will continue until mid-summer. How does that fit in? Saturn energy is very concrete and practical by nature. It governs social structures, karmic issues and career matters. Retrograde energy is introverting. It slows down the rate of change and manifestation where ever it is in influence, often coming in the form of postponements or setbacks. In truth retrograde energy identifies where the weaknesses and unfinished business may be in your current plans. Time over the next few months will be best spent taking stock, developing greater inner strength and reorganizing where needed.
This year’s retrograde Saturn period will be especially evident in its impact because Mars (the action planet) will also be retrograde (April 17th – June 29th ). More information will be coming on that next month.
On March 19th the Spring equinox arrives.
Its the Sun's entrance into Aries, the first sign of the zodiac. Aries is a fire sign ruled by the planet Mars. Fresh, dynamic and full of vim and vigor, the Aries sign is physical in nature and pioneering in spirit. Winter is officially over, nature is waking up and activities of all kinds are on the increase.
On April 7th there is a new Moon in Aries.
This new Moon chart is full of pioneering energy with the Sun, Moon and the planet Uranus conjunct in the sign of Aries. Uranus rules invention, originality, humanitarian causes and brotherly love. Its energies are sudden and unexpected by nature and can be willful or erratic when mis-directed. You can anticipate sudden and unexpected occurrences when Uranus is being activated. This new Moon ushers in an especially good period of time for new starts.
It may sound like a contradiction to have new beginnings along side strong retrograde influences but Saturn's influence on the Sun, Moon and Uranus helps to slow down this high octane trio and potentially keep things on a productive course. Increasing the chances of long standing effectiveness for any activities your engaged at this time. Its especially good for development of a new phase in any ongoing commitments you may already have.
Finally, Pluto adds its flavor into the mix with challenging aspects to Sun, Moon and Uranus in this new Moon chart. Resistant behaviors and self will can run strong. Pluto's influence always signals a need for transformation on some front. Jupiter has an easy supportive trine aspect to this Pluto which helps to smooth the pathway and support the potential for mastery or leadership in your chosen endeavors.
That's worth waiting for isn't it?
February 2016 Newsletter
We are already into the second month of 2016, time truly is accelerating! After a rather slow start with Mercury (planet of communication) being retrograde in January, February has offered us a fresh new start with the new Moon in Aquarius on Feb. 8th. Aquarius is the sign associated with new perspectives, humanitarian thinking, community mindedness and brotherly love. This a good month for taking progressive actions in your life, focusing on friendships and strengthening group activities of all kinds.
By far the most significant energies in play over the next few weeks is a major configuration with Jupiter,Chiron, the Moon's nodes and Saturn. It is building momentum and will have its strongest impact late Feb.- early March. It will also be highlighted in the upcoming total solar eclipse March 8.
Key concepts for this combination of planetary forces are: healing old wounds, increased understanding through examination of limiting beliefs and anchoring healthy new attitudes into a practical real world setting.
Let me explain in detail. The heart of the aspect is a Jupiter-Chiron opposition which has been in play for a few months now but is coming into its closest alignment in the coming weeks. Its energies are being heightened by an exact alignment with the Moon's nodes and a stressful aspect called a t-square formed by Saturn.
Jupiter, which is currently in the sign of Virgo (health and service) is the planet that rules belief systems, higher learning, wisdom and expansion. It is judicial by nature. Chiron is currently in the sign of Pisces (faith, unconditional love). It is known as the wounded healer and functions as the bridge to higher consciousness. Its action operates through the difficult circumstances in life. Most often our responses are routed in early childhood issues in which we had no personal control. These early situations typically shut us down and force coping mechanisms that create blocks to authentic self expression and personal freedom. These wounds go deep and continue to impact our lives in many ways.
Jupiter and Chiron are in an opposition aspect which is inherently polarizing. Resolution lies in finding a point of dynamic balance and harmony between these two planetary forces. This aspect, though challenging in nature, fosters a great deal of social awareness. As well as the opportunity to shed limiting beliefs, broaden perspectives and release old patterns of behavior. You can expect issues connected to your wounded inner child to slip into the mix during this time frame.
Because Chiron is aspected to Jupiter, belief systems, judgmental thinking and issues of faith are at the core of any issues that surface during this time. These aspects will effect us as individuals to varying degrees (depending on how it interacts with your personal birth chart) as well as on a collective level. This dynamic is so clearly playing out on a global political level with the Syrian refugee crisis. Issues of freedom are at stake, acceptance versus judgmental attitudes are up for review and structures to resolve the tensions are dearly needed.
Adding tension to this opposition is the planet Saturn which forms a stressful t-square to both planets. Saturn is by nature a crystallizing force. On the positive side it influence builds lasting structures but on the negative side it is limiting, controlling and resistant to change. Its influence is karmic in nature. To work positively with its energies requires restructuring in order to support new growth as well as the elimination of what no longer serves. Practical application to new thinking is required. This is the time to implement change that reflects current understanding and awareness on our evolutionary trail.
To further underscore the timely significance of this aspect, the Moon's nodes now are in alignment with the Jupiter and Chiron opposition. This acts as a kind of rudder in terms of evolutionary direction. The north Node receives (its currently conjunct Jupiter) and the south Node releases (its currently conjunct Chiron).
This is a timely opportunity for healing and growth that will facilitate a more authentic version of your life so please use it to full advantage!
One more thing to note, there will be a subtle shift in energies from Feb. 19th on wards with movement away from airy Aquarian detachment into the more emotionally sensitive, faith based and heart oriented sign of Pisces ( ruled by Neptune). Sensitivity and inspired action will be on the increase then.
Feb 19 Sun moves into Pisces.
Feb 21 Neptune conjuncts Ceres ( the nurturer / mother asteroid).
Feb 22 full Moon in Virgo-Pisces with Neptune opposing the Moon.
Feb 28 Neptune conjuncts Sun.
Mar 8 Total Solar eclipse with Sun, Moon, Chiron oppose Jupiter and t-square Saturn
Many blessings and
February 2015 Newsletter
Here we are in the second month of 2015 already! This will be a year that promises a lighter vibrational force then what has been on the plate in the two previous ones. Spiritual speaker Matt Khan coins it so nicely by calling it ‘the Year of Initiation’. It a time to foster the next gentle step in the process of ‘embodiment’ which is a cornerstone piece in implementing this New era.
So what’s going on astrologically? There are a couple of year starters of note I’d like to comment on. First, the current and final passage of comet Lovejoy and secondly, the first retrograde Mercury of this year.
Lovejoy (a name that says it all !) is one of the rarest of comets that enters our solar system. It has a very wide cycle and won’t be seen again in these parts for another 8000 years! Comets are rather like the special delivery messengers for the zodiac. When one cycles into our solar system it brings energy of a fresh and unique quality which has a catalyzing effect on the current circumstances we are experiencing, whatever they may be.
Timing is always significant in astrological terms and Lovejoy’s timing is worth noting. First discovered in Nov. 2011,then against all the odds it survived its passage around the Sun in Dec. 2012. Both key dates in the closing of the great 26,000 year cycle in the Mayan calendar. Also of interest is the great show it puts on with its beautiful heart chakra- green tail. Interesting because almost all comets glow white. A fitting display for anchoring the Love vibration which is the key component of this new era, don’t you think?
Concurrent with that event is the first Mercury retrograde of this year. It does its entire motion through the sign of Aquarius, the sign that champions invention, futuristic directions, collective consciousness, social change and brotherly love. It is also, of course, the sign of this New age that we are currently moving into.
As always when observing the celestial movements we apply the time honored adage: As above: So below. In other works celestial movements are a symbiotic reflection rather than some controlling force ‘out there’.
As many are aware of, the times when Mercury is retrograde you can expect communications to slow down and re-route. There is likely to be confusion, delays and break downs of various kinds. The common recommendations are to delay initiating new ventures during that time. It is, however, important to note that retrogradation is a natural process (for all the planets) rather than some kind of cosmic whammie meant to confuse or trip you up.
When Mercury or any of the other planets go retrograde there are actually three passages over the same series of degrees of the zodiac taking place over a period of time. Like any repeat situation, an emphasis or learning curve opportunity, if looked at in a positive light is happening in the areas of life that are being affected by it. It’s a time to slow down, go deeper, re-evaluate, adjust and then integrate the new viewpoints and understandings.
On January 21st. Mercury went retrograde at 17 degrees Aquarius and will go direct once again on February 11th at 1 degree Aquarius. The first time Mercury touched the first degree of Aquarius was Jan 5th and the last time it will cross over 17 degrees Aquarius is Mar 3rd. This expands the time from 3 weeks to 2 full months. During this time communication and travel oriented items are actually being refined in your life to a greater alignment with your true objectives (something the conscious mind isn’t nearly as in tune with as it would have you believe!)
The weeks before the retrograde often provide the issues that will be up for review during the actual retrograde time line and the weeks after it then become a type of integration period when you are making the ‘fit’ as well as, any final corrections that need to happen.
I’d encourage you to reflect on the activities and plans started in the first weeks of January and there you will likely find the origins of some issues that are currently being redefined and adjusted during this retrograde phase. When Mercury goes direct mid February until early March a period of integration will likely follow any changes made during the retrograde time frame.
Some retrogrades periods will seem stronger to you than others. The emphasis for you as an individual will be focused in the house of your birth chart that the retrograde is passing through as well as, planets it may pass over which will then trigger some focused events. The stationed degrees, in this case Aquarius 1 and 17 are also sensitized and important to note in your chart as well.
Now to have a peak ahead in the months to come. There are two transits of note I’ll bring to your attention. They are the last exact transit of the great Uranus square Pluto ( March) and a Venus retrograde phase which will span over the entire summer.
Uranus square Pluto is a key note transit for the transition into the new post 2012 era. Both planets deal with mass shifts in consciousness and have long reaching significance of global proportions.
Secondly, retrograde Venus (planet of love, justice, harmony, relationships) begins its retrograde dance on July 25th, the entire phase such as described for Mercury, running from June 21st (solstice) through to October 9th . It will also conjunct the planet Jupiter in early July. Expect amping up of Venus related issues in your life! Also providing an opportunity to re-define and embody new levels of awareness in the areas of life where this Love planet is playing out for you.
More in months to come.....
